Camping and Backpacking requirements

The following articles will help you decide what is important and what is not.......   as our news scouts are smaller in stature, we must think on what they can comfortably carry over a few miles at a time, and most importantly that the pack fits them well.   If not certain take the time to go to a specialist store like REI and get them to educate you and your scout on the right size pack... you don't have to buy their $400 pack though, or anything in the store.
NOTE: You may have to buy a youth size as a starter pack to cover the next 18 months. And secondhand packs are often available.

Unless you intend to take your boys on a week long hiking trip in future, there is no need for a pack bigger than approx 45-50 liters.

Airport visit MONDAY June 9 @ 6:30pm

Last night was the last lesson, please complete the workbooks as best you can and be prepared to hand these in, with the two exercises on instruments, when we next meet. Blue Cards must also accompany these sheets.  Remember section 5 , this is the section I will be asking questions on

All the information you need for the workbook is provided on meritbadge.org

MONDAY night June 9th we visit to the Greensboro Airport , at 6:30 PM, follow signs to Landmark Aviation , next to the tower .

If you want to know what we will be doing, we will be doing a pre flight inspection.

I appreciate all the help I had, sorry we missed a few nights but that is the reality with my work.

For newer scouts, the Blue Cards must be filled in with your information and the Merit Badge title only, but on all three pages of the card. I will fill in the rest.

Aviation Merit Badge

A quick note to parents and Scouts.... many of the boys are participating in the Aviation Merit Badge. Part of this badge requirement is the completion of the worksheet... as a merit Badge Counselor I see this as mandatory to ensure all the work is covered, and yet 4 weeks ( 5 calendar weeks) into it and some scouts have done nothing. While some of the younger boys may not be used to this approach, we need to instill the methods of self learning as this is important as you progress in Scouting.

Merit badges are done to learn and be educated about subjects , plus maybe open up ideas for a Vocation or even a Career. Please enforce this with your Scouts.

The worksheet for those who have lost it , dog ate it , etc ......   can be downloaded at http://meritbadge.org/wiki/index.php/Aviation on the top of the page. ALSO Note the links at the bottom of the page too.

The Troop 107 Blog will have the worksheet posted , plus other important information about this merit Badge.

Lastly it is our intention to either visit the Air Harbor airport or the FAA Tower at KGSO , and I am trying to organize this for Tuesday June 3rd, we would need to gather earlier than normal for this to take place.

As you know we encourage our scouts to be responsible for their own actions - So For those of you who have older scouts with their own email address - they can be on our direct mail system too, just let us know their emails and they can also join the Blog and Facebook page (with your approval first).

Last point of organization -  get a flip folder / presentation book with clear plastic sleeves , and get your scout to keep all important papers in this and keep it with his scout book.
